Oral Cancer Screening

The average person is not aware of the impact oral cancer on the general population. While nearly one person is lost to cancer each hour, every day, according to the Oral Cancer Foundation, almost 50,000 Americans will receive the news that they have oral and/or oropharyngeal cancer per year. Of that 50,000, approximately 10,000 will not live to see next year. Les Belles NYC is committed to doing our part to drastically lower those figures.

Sadly, only about 20 percent of Americans receive an annual cancer screening. This simple, lifesaving procedure is painless and takes only a few minutes to perform. What is more, in the case of most of these cancers, when discovered early enough, they can be treated successfully.

Our holistic approach to oral healthcare at Les Belles NYC includes a comprehensive oral cancer screening. We are acutely aware of how lifestyle choices can have a direct impact on health and well-being; we want our patients to cultivate that same awareness so they can live healthy and longer lives. Screening for oral cancers is another way we support you in your pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.

Identify Mouth Cancer Early

There are a variety of factors that cause some people to be at higher risk for oral cancers than others. Among those factors are personal habits such as unhealthy dieting, smoking, tobacco, heavy alcohol use, or frequent sunbathing. Age is another factor with risk increasing after the age of 40. If you have been diagnosed with HPV (human papillomavirus) you are also at higher risk.

It is not unusual for those diagnosed with oral cancer to have at least one risk factor. However, the rate of diagnosis in people without these risk factors seems to be on the rise. High stress levels, poor nutrition, and lack of exercise can impact your health and these factors may leave your immune system weak and unable to adequately fight off diseases, including oral cancer.

Just a few minutes can mean the difference between early intervention and becoming an oral cancer statistic. We promote prevention and early intervention at Les Belles NYC. Our gentle and comprehensive approach is aggressive when it comes to diagnosing and addressing oral diseases before they have a chance to develop into serious issues for our patients.

Your healthy smile is indicative of a healthy, vibrant lifestyle. Let’s keep it that way with a thorough exam and cancer screening.
