Dr. Sharon Huang

A native New Yorker, Dr. Sharon Huang received her doctorate of dental surgery from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. A few years ago, Dr. Huang participated in a humanitarian mission to a secluded village in the mountains of El Naranjito, in the Dominican Republic, providing dental care to communities without access to medical and dental facilities.

“I will never forget my work in the DR. I remember one morning we had a boy from a neighboring village travel to our camp to fix a fractured tooth.  He had traveled miles and miles on foot just to wait in line for his turn to see a dentist.  He was so little and so young that I couldn’t help but check up on him throughout the day just to make sure he was safe. We were all working around the clock to help everyone who had come before him and here was this little boy waiting patiently for twelve hours. He was one of our last patients, and I can still remember his smile after he got his fractured tooth repaired. He was so radiant and happy, and then he got up from the chair,  waved at me, and left to make his way back home, by himself, on foot for three hours, in the dark. It was mindblowing and stoked my passion for dentistry even more.  It also made me realize just how important and life-changing a healthy smile can be.”

After completing a residency at St. Barnabas Hospital, a level one trauma center in the Bronx, Sharon went on to postgraduate training at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, working with medically compromised veterans who required complex dental care.

Dr. Huang has extensive training in esthetic dentistry and in the use of biomaterials with a concentration in advanced prosthodontics, including full mouth rehabilitations with computer guided surgical placement of implants. She is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the New York State Dental Association.  Sharon has this to say about her work, “Dentistry is my art. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then teeth are the locks to those windows. It’s my job to help keep them beautiful and bright.
