Les Belles NYC is dedicated to helping each of our patients understand the importance of oral health. Gum health is seldom given much consideration as a topic of discussion however it is a very important part of oral health. Recent studies have linked certain health concerns to gum condition. Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in older adults but it can also be found in every age group, including children. Fortunately, with proper care, gum disease can be controlled and stabilized.
At Les Belles NYC, we use a modern holistic approach when addressing dental problems such as gum disease. Our periodontal therapy begins with a thorough examination of your teeth and gums. We then evaluate the severity of the disease. The next step is to thoroughly clean the teeth with ultrasonic equipment.
In very severe cases, some minor surgery may be required to remove damaged tissue. Medicine is placed in the areas where the infection is acute. Les Belles NYC will furnish you with special toothpaste and mouthwash to help with the healing process.
Gum Infection Treatment
Infections in the gums may require the use of medicines to slow or stop the bacteria causing the infection. We may apply medicine in the gum. Our dentist will determine the best method for controlling your infection and discuss any options with you.
Scaling and Root Planing/ Deep Cleaning
Gum disease starts when plaque builds up on the teeth. The plaque then hardens into tartar or calculus and begins pushing the gums away from the teeth. Infection can set in as toxins are formed from the byproducts of the bacteria and the body’s defense system making the elimination of the plaque and tartar buildup of prime importance.
You will need a deep cleaning when you have accumulation of calculus and bone loss below the gum line. Scaling the teeth is done with ultrasonic tools which break up the tartar accumulation on the teeth. Once all the tartar has been removed, the roots of the teeth are gently planed smooth, allowing the gums to reattach to the teeth.
Gum disease is avoidable with proper oral hygiene and a healthy diet. The Les Belles NYC team is committed to helping our patients achieve their highest level of oral health.
